Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kaufman). They were the clear victors by a 20-10 margin over the Terrell Tigers on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Lions as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Abeni Nava was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kaufman got a massive performance out of Sadie Waters, who scored five runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs Waters has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bella Phiffer, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Kaufman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Kaufman's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-9-2. As for Terrell, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Kaufman and Terrell could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Kaufman (ranked 626th) will meet Midlothian Heritage (ranked 137th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Terrell will challenge Midlothian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 711 places (795 vs. 84).
