Baseball Recap: El Monte Comes Up Short

El Monte extended their losing streak to 13 on Friday, dropping them down to 1-13. They came up short against the Gabrielino Eagles, falling 26-3. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 5-1 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

El Monte saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Javier Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Matthew Gomez was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Gabrielino, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Gabrielino's side, they got a massive performance out of Robert Esparza, who went 4-for-6 with five runs, one triple, and one double. Those five runs gave Esparza a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Ruiz, who went 4-for-5 with four runs and one double.

El Monte didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 12-0 defeat against Arroyo on the 20th. As for Gabrielino, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 9-7 loss against Rosemead on the 20th.
