Whitwell and South Pittsburg are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Whitwell has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while South Pittsburg will come in with four straight wins.

Last Tuesday, Whitwell didn't have quite enough to beat South Pittsburg and fell 6-5.

For South Pittsburg's part, Kaylee Kilgore was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 22 batters over 12 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Kilgore has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Macy Mashburn was excellent, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs and one double. Adelyn McLemore also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

South Pittsburg's record now sits at 11-9. As for Whitwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
