Softball Recap: Leigh Comes Up Short

Leigh had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 14-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Santa Teresa Saints, falling 9-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Longhorns have suffered since May 13, 2025.

Mia Hinojosa was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Santa Teresa, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

On Santa Teresa's side, Bella Batista made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Batista was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Liliana Azevedo was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Clare Zarzeczny was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Leigh has already played their next contest, a 12-8 loss against Live Oak on the 6th. As for Santa Teresa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 9-8 win against Westmont on the 4th.
