Softball Recap: Academy of the New Church's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Academy of the New Church got themselves on the board against Friends' Central on Thursday, but Friends' Central never followed suit. They put the hurt on Friends' Central with a sharp 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jamie Madara was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Olivia Schriver was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

The victory was the third in a row for Academy of the New Church, bringing their record up to 10-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Friends' Central, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy of the New Church will take on Lower Moreland at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Friends' Central, they will head out to take on Hill School at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Friends' Central's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
