Softball Recap: Countryside Cougars vs. Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders

Countryside proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders, sneaking past 7-5. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 6-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Kaitlyn Crouch was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Elizabeth Frizzle was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season. Ella Sprague was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Countryside's record is now 3-11. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Countryside will take on River Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, they will challenge Saint Stephen's Episcopal at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
