Preview: Ingleside Mustangs vs. Robstown Cottonpickers
Ingleside is 6-1 against Robstown since August of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Ingleside Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Robstown Cottonpickers at 7:30 p.m. Ingleside will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Two weeks ago, Ingleside was fully in charge, breezing past West Oso 61-13 at home. The result was nothing new for Ingleside, who have now won six matchups by 29 points or more so far this season.
Aidan Jakobsohn continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 241 yards and four touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Jakobsohn is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last seven games he's played. Nathan Ambrose was in the mix too, providing Ingleside with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last matchup, Robstown made sure to put some points up on the board against West Oso on Thursday. Everything went Robstown's way against West Oso as Robstown made off with a 34-13 victory.
Robstown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Edward Diaz out in front who rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Silva, who rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Robstown's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Kasey Soto and his two sacks.
Ingleside's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Aransas Pass and 1-7 West Oso (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 10.3% over those games). As for Robstown, their victory on Thursday bumped their record up to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for Ingleside against Robstown in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 65-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ingleside since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
