Basketball Recap: Indian Creek Comes Up Short

Indian Creek was the 63-53 winner over John Marshall when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Indian Creek Redskins fell to the John Marshall Monarchs 45-40. While losing is never fun, the Redskins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 180th in Ohio, while the Monarchs are ranked 21st in West Virginia).

Despite the loss, Indian Creek saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaydence Walker posted 11 points in addition to five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Sadler, who scored eight points and 17 boards.

Rilee Storm was her usual excellent self, going 7 of 16 to rack up 20 points and eight rebounds for John Marshall. Storm has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaylee White, who put up 13 points and six assists.

Indian Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for John Marshall, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-8.

The future could be bright for both Indian Creek and John Marshall: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Indian Creek will look to extend River View's 11-game losing streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, John Marshall will try to hand Brooke their 17th-straight loss when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on February 19th.
