Baseball Recap: Covina Takes a Loss

After flying high against Charter Oak on Tuesday, Covina came back down to earth. The Colts fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Covina got a good showing from Diego Lopez, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lopez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Covina saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was E. Echeverria, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Covina has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Charter Oak, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Covina will take on Rowland at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.88 runs per game on average), something the Colts will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Charter Oak, they will square off against West Covina at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight.
