Basketball Recap: Montgomery County Comes Up Short

Montgomery County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss. They took a blow against the Hawkinsville Red Devils, falling 62-17. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-21 two weeks ago.

Hawkinsville had a senior duo take command as Kyla Slocumb went 8 for 12 en route to 22 points and seven steals and Alicia Newman almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Slocumb also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Destiny Jenkins, who posted nine points and five boards.

Montgomery County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-23. As for Hawkinsville, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-17.

Coming up, Montgomery County will challenge Dooly County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Montgomery County is facing Dooly County at the right time seeing as Dooly County is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Hawkinsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
