Baseball Recap: St. Pius X Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but St. Pius X ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Odessa Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since April 1st.

Henry Bertoncin looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chase Brookings was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for St. Pius X and bumps their season record up to 12-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Odessa, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-9.

Coming up, St. Pius X will challenge Rockhurst at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Odessa, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clinton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
