Football Game Preview: Union City Soaring Eagles vs. Orange Tornadoes

The Union City Soaring Eagles will challenge the Orange Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Union City will be strutting in after a victory while Orange will be coming in after a loss.

Union City is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Montclair to the tune of 56-10 on Saturday. With the Soaring Eagles ahead 28-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Naythan Pena and Mario Medina. Pena rushed for 132 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries while Medina rushed for 145 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries. Those 132 rushing yards gave Pena a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of David Fernantes, who rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.

Union City was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 403 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Union City's defense and their four sacks. In that department, Chris Sibrian Jr. was the leader with two.

Meanwhile, Orange was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 50-2 loss at the hands of Newark Central.

Union City's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Orange, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything came up roses for Union City against Orange in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 63-0 victory. Do the Soaring Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tornadoes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
