Softball Recap: Burlington Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Burlington had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Anderson County Bulldogs on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Grace Birk made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Birk was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Emma Thomsen was a standout: she scored four runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carlee Cole, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Burlington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anderson County only posted an OBP of .077.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Burlington beat Anderson County by a score of 21-6 later that day.
