Downingtown West barely beat East the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Whippets put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 3-0 win on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Whippets have posted against the Vikings since October 10, 2019.
Downingtown West walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the first set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-16, 25-19.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Bayard Rustin's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They came up short against Bishop Shanahan, falling 3-0.
Bayard Rustin was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 27-25, 25-18.
Downingtown West will have to keep a close watch on Mady Parkinson and Madeline Doherty, a pair of players who had a big impact on Bayard Rustin's prior game. Parkinson had 12 digs and two aces, while Doherty had 12 assists and five digs.
Downingtown West's victory bumped their record up to 8-1-1. As for Bayard Rustin, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Downingtown West beat Bayard Rustin 3-1 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Whippets since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
