Baseball Recap: Stroud Gets the Win

While Stroud's win against Stratford wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Stroud sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Stratford on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

Jessen Leathers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Stroud: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cal Shields, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Stroud's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jerry Cropp, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Stroud's record now sits at 6-4. As for Stratford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Coming up, Stroud will head out on the road to challenge Hinton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Stratford, they will be playing at home against Ringling at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
