Softball Recap: Penobscot Valley Extends Winning Streak to Six

Penobscot Valley strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against the Penquis Valley Patriots by a score of 5-2. Those five runs were actually the fewest the Howlers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Lauren Veino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lila Cummings was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Dube, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Penobscot Valley's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Penquis Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Penobscot Valley will welcome Piscataquis at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Penquis Valley, they will host Greenville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots are facing the Lakers at the right time seeing as the Lakers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
