Basketball Game Preview: Wausa Vikings vs. Winside Wildcats

Wausa is 10-0 against Winside since January of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Wausa Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Winside Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Winside took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wausa, who comes in off a win.

Wausa took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 45-30 win over Tri County Northeast.

Wausa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Dawson, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Dawson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Gillilan, who put up 11 points.

Wausa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Winside took on St. Mary's on Thursday. Winside was dealt a 61-24 defeat at the hands of St. Mary's. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Wausa has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. As for Winside, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.

Wausa was able to grind out a solid victory over Winside in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 37-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wausa since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
