Football Recap: Widefield Comes Up Short

Widefield played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 61-6 defeat at the hands of the Montrose Red Hawks. The Gladiators were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-6.

Despite the loss, Widefield still got an impressive performance from Brody Gizzi, who picked up 128 receiving yards and one TD. Gizzi's longest reception was for an incredible 83 yards.

Widefield is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7. As for Montrose, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Coming up, Widefield will be playing at home against Doherty at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Gladiators will be up against the Spartans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.13 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Montrose, they will square off against Pueblo West at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cyclones' defense has only allowed 11.6 points per game this season, so the Red Hawks' offense will have their work cut out for them.
