Basketball Game Preview: Caldwell Cougars vs. Columbia Wildcats

Caldwell is 2-8 against Columbia since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars take on the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Caldwell will be strutting in after a victory while Columbia will be coming in after a loss.

Last Monday, Caldwell didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Emmett, but they still walked away with a 53-48 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Columbia came up short against Middleton on Monday and fell 62-50. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now lost six in a row.

Caldwell will have to keep a close watch on Max Keller and Blake Hansen, a pair of players who had a big impact on Columbia's prior game. Keller on his way to 20 points and four steals, while Hansen dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. Hansen is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last 11 games he's played.

Caldwell's win bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Columbia, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Caldwell was dealt a bruising 71-43 loss at the hands of Columbia in their previous matchup last Saturday. Can Caldwell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
