The Wickenburg Christian Academy Lion will challenge the Holy Family Academy Padres at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Wickenburg Christian Academy sitting on four straight victories and Holy Family Academy on three.
Wickenburg Christian Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Trinity Christian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Wickenburg Christian Academy was the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over Trinity Christian on Monday. Considering the Lion have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Evan Gustin made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Gustin was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aziel Flores, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Xavier Moralez, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Wickenburg Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Christian only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Family Academy). They blew past Thunderbird Adventist Academy 17-1 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Holy Family Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Wickenburg Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Wickenburg Christian Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Holy Family Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will Wickenburg Christian Academy repeat their success, or does Holy Family Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
