Baseball Game Preview: Holy Family Catholic Fire vs. Southwest Christian Stars

The Holy Family Catholic Fire will head out on the road to take on the Southwest Christian Stars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Holy Family Catholic is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Hutchinson on Tuesday. They fell 6-2 to the Tigers. Fire fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Tigers since on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Southwest Christian entered their tilt with Jordan on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Hubmen / Jaguars by a score of 7-3.

Peter Gauger tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Southwest Christian let Melvin Maldonado and Ben Lindberg run wild. Maldonado went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Lindberg went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Maldonado has hit this season.

Southwest Christian lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.

The defeat snapped Holy Family Catholic's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-6 record. As for Southwest Christian, their record is now 10-3.

Holy Family Catholic suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Southwest Christian in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Fire avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
