Dynamic duo of Phillip Ned and Matthew Williams lead La Porte to victory

Recap: La Porte Bulldogs vs. Santa Fe Indians

The La Porte Bulldogs won the last time they faced the Santa Fe Indians, and things went their way on Tuesday too. La Porte walked away with a 60-53 victory over Santa Fe. Given La Porte's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Santa Fe is ranked 729th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading La Porte to victory were Phillip Ned and Matthew Williams. Ned scored 18 points along with three steals, while Williams scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Ned has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent Callies, who scored nine points along with three steals.

Kaidan Mata and Kenny Torres certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Mata went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 2 assists, while Torres scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mata has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aidan Jewell, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

La Porte's win bumped their record up to 18-12. As for Santa Fe, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-16 record this season.

La Porte will be playing at home against Texas City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Texas City is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Santa Fe, they will head out on the road to take on Ball at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ball is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
