Soquel hadn't done well against Aptos recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Soquel skirted past Aptos 6-5. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mariners, too.

Jake Escalante made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Escalante wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Enzo Goff, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, Goff posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Sam Whelan was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Soquel's record now sits at 11-1. As for Aptos, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Soquel will head out on the road to challenge Scotts Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Aptos, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Santa Clara at 2:00 p.m. Aptos' pitchers better be ready for this one: Santa Clara has averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
