It was a good run, but Orland unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 56-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Corning Cardinals. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.
Despite the loss, Orland still got an impressive performance from Preston Carlson, who posted 16 points and six rebounds. Jayden Thompson was another key player, going 7 for 13 on his way to 15 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Corning to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeff Mendros, who went 6 of 11 en route to 18 points. Kaidan Raker also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.
Orland's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-5. As for Corning, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season.
Orland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 78-35 defeat against Gridley on the 24th. Corning has also already played their next game, a 67-61 win against Las Plumas on the 24th.
