Volleyball Recap: Mayfield Takes Down Ranked Centennial

Mayfield faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Trojans came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Hawks on October 11th, they had to take a 3-0 loss.

Mayfield had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 29-27, 25-21, 25-18.

Alexa Chavez was a one-woman wrecking crew as she had 17 digs and four assists. That's the most assists she has posted since October 4th.

Despite the loss, Centennial still got an impressive performance from Jana Borham, who had 11 digs and four aces.

Mayfield's record now sits at 13-7. As for Centennial, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mayfield will square off against rival Alamogordo at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Centennial is set to challenge their familiar foe Gadsden at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
