Baseball Recap: Valley Forge Patriots vs. Open Door Christian Patriots
Valley Forge had lost nine straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-16 to make it ten. They fell just short of Open Door Christian by a score of 9-7. Valley Forge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Open Door Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Evan Tappe made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Sean Frank, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Open Door Christian, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 25, 2024.
On Open Door Christian's side, Ian Reed was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Reed has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Nikkos Poulos, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Coming up, Valley Forge will host Rocky River at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Open Door Christian, they will venture away from home to challenge Danbury at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots are facing the Lakers at the right time seeing as the Lakers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
