Baseball Recap: New Trier Takes Down Niles West in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and New Trier had no trouble coming through when it counted. They won by a run and slipped past the Niles West Wolves 5-4. The victory was nothing new for the Trevians as they're now sitting on six straight.

New Trier got a great performance from Greg Campitelli as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Campitelli has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Keenan Donaldson, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ben Toft, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.

New Trier pushed their record up to 28-7-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Niles West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-19 record this season.
