Softball Recap: St. Helena's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

St. Helena had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Lower Lake Trojans. That's more bragging rights for the Saints, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Tahlia Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Carmichael, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Malia Lund also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

St. Helena pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Lower Lake, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Helena will challenge rival Fort Bragg at 4:30 p.m. on the 16th. Meanwhile, Lower Lake is set to square off against their familiar foe Upper Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
