Softball Game Preview: Gilroy Mustangs vs. Leigh Longhorns

The Gilroy Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Leigh Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gilroy will be strutting in after a victory while Leigh will be coming in after a defeat.

Gilroy took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Christopher a 4-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won six in a row.

Lalita Solis and Dayanara Jaimes did most of the damage at the plate: Solis went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI, while Jaimes went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave Jaimes a new career-high.

Gilroy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Leigh came up short against Willow Glen on Monday and fell 9-5. The loss continues a trend for the Longhorns in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost six in a row.

Prestley Mueller was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Hinojosa, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Leigh's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Gilroy, their record is now 5-13.

Gilroy couldn't quite finish off Leigh in their previous meeting back in March and fell 8-6. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
