Basketball Game Preview: Calverton vs. Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs

Calverton is 0-10 against Southern Maryland Christian Academy since January of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. Calverton will challenge the Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Calverton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on The Lab School of Washington with a sharp 82-58 win on Saturday. With that victory, Calverton brought their scoring average up to 51 points per game.

Calverton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Justus Washington led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. Washington is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games he's played. Nathan Lauzon was another key player, going 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points.

Meanwhile, Southern Maryland Christian Academy made easy work of Sts. Peter & Paul on Saturday and carried off a 76-52 win.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy's win came from a few key players Calverton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Corey Hughley, who went 12 of 26 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron McGlone, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 17 points.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Calverton, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Calverton was taken down by Southern Maryland Christian Academy 78-28 when the teams last played back in February of 2020. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Calverton was down 50-15.
