Softball Recap: Elk River Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Andover, Elk River was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Buffalo Bison. The win was some much needed relief for the Elks as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Bella Cordova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elk River's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lily Backman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Backman has posted since back in April. Another was Ella Fransen, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Elk River's win bumped their record up to 3-12. As for Buffalo, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Elk River has already played their next matchup (against Totino-Grace), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Buffalo, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-6 defeat against Hopkins on the 7th.
