Baseball Recap: Turner Ashby Starts off Right with Win over Page County

Turner Ashby gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Page County Panthers with a sharp 18-2 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Sammy Moats tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Caden Simmers was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Knight, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Turner Ashby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Page County only posted an OBP of .364.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Turner Ashby will venture away from home to take on Fort Defiance at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Page County, they will take on East Rockingham at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Page County is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
