Baseball Game Preview: Newfane Panthers vs. Akron Tigers

For the second straight game, Newfane will face off against Akron. The Panthers will welcome the Tigers at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Newfane is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Newfane and Akron, and Akron kept the tradition alive. The Panthers lost 20-4 to the Tigers on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered against the Tigers since May 4, 2022.

For Akron's part, Ryan Owen was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Owen has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Conlan Luck was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Collin Miller was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Akron kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Newfane's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Akron, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
