Baseball Game Preview: Firelands Falcons vs. Avon Lake Shoremen

The Firelands Falcons will face off against the Avon Lake Shoremen at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Firelands' hitters haven't had much luck over their past four contests, but Saturday's match will give them a chance to turn things around.

Firelands is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 30, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to Huron.

Firelands saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Kothe, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Avon Lake made easy work of Bay on Thursday and carried off an 8-1 victory. The Shoremen haven't had any issues with the Rockets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Isaac Soloff was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Soloff was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other pitching news, Brayden Poltrone looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Alex Soloff and Jacob Perry did most of the damage at the plate: Soloff scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Perry went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one double.

Firelands' loss dropped their record down to 0-3-1. As for Avon Lake, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Everything went Firelands' way against Avon Lake in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Firelands made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
