Softball Recap: Cibola Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Cibola couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the La Cueva Bears by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bears this season, with their most recent loss being a 24-4 defeat back in March.

Gabrielle Moncada spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cibola saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Presley Peek-Ruscetti, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Cibola's defeat dropped their record down to 23-6. As for La Cueva, the win was the 22nd in a row for them, bringing their record up to 26-3.

Cibola wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-6 victory against Carlsbad on the 16th. As for La Cueva, they have also already played their next game, a 4-0 loss against Centennial on the 16th.
