Baseball Recap: Alamo Heights Comes Up Short

If Alamo Heights was riding high fresh off their 12-3 takedown of Southwest on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Alamo Heights fell just short of the Cornerstone Christian Warriors by a score of 13-11 on Saturday. Even though they lost, the Mules' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Luke Spielhagen led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Alamo Heights: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11-1 otherwise. William Bishop also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Spielhagen wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Alamo Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Alamo Heights has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12-1 record this season. Cornerstone Christian pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alamo Heights will take on Boerne at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Boerne's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Alamo Heights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cornerstone Christian, they will challenge San Antonio HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
