Baseball Game Preview: Clairemont Chieftains vs. Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders

Clairemont has gone a perfect 3-0 against Mater Dei Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Clairemont Chieftains will be taking part in a tournament against the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. Mater Dei Catholic took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Clairemont, who comes in off a win.

Clairemont saw some tournament action on Monday. They came out on top against Hilltop by a score of 5-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chieftains.

Clairemont let Brendan Weiss and Bo Osland run wild. Weiss went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Osland went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave Weiss a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Diego Matsumoto, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Mater Dei Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Morse. One positive for the Crusaders, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Joey Castillo and Kaij Ordaz stepped up to the plate in a big way. Castillo scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3, while Ordaz got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple and two RBI. Castillo is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Zamora, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.

Clairemont's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Clairemont beat Mater Dei Catholic 9-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will Clairemont repeat their success, or does Mater Dei Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
