Baseball Recap: San Lorenzo Valley Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Lorenzo Valley). They put the hurt on the North Salinas Vikings with a sharp 16-5 victory on Saturday. The Cougars not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 8, 2024.

Dominic Aguilar made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jaden Shabry and Larrabee Mitchell did most of the damage at the plate: Shabry scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Mitchell went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Mitchell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Spencer Bruce, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

San Lorenzo Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.

The win snapped San Lorenzo Valley's losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 2-10 record. As for North Salinas, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

San Lorenzo Valley will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Soquel at 4:00 p.m. on the 15th. As for North Salinas, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-1 win against Lynbrook on the 7th.
