Softball Recap: Delavan-Darien Takes a Loss

Delavan-Darien extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-10 in the process. They lost 12-0 to the Jefferson Eagles. If the Comets were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Jefferson, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The contest marked their most dominant win of the season so far.

For Jefferson's part, Bre Mengel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Mengel was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Smith, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Merranda Frank, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

While Delavan-Darien had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
