Basketball Game Preview: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates vs. Eads Eagles

The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the Eads Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Saturday, Genoa-Hugo/Karval came up short against Kit Carson and fell 48-39.

Despite the loss, Genoa-Hugo/Karval had strong showings from Shane Reid, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards, and Eddy Franey, who posted ten points and eight rebounds. Those 15 points gave Reid a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Eads was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 51-45 to Cheyenne Wells. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Tigers are ranked 100th).

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Eads, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Eads in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, but they still walked away with a 48-44 win. Will Genoa-Hugo/Karval repeat their success, or does Eads have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
