Basketball Game Preview: Gibsonburg Golden Bears vs. Toledo Christian Eagles

The Gibsonburg Golden Bears will square off against the Toledo Christian Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gibsonburg will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Gibsonburg saw some tournament action on Saturday. They strolled past Van Buren with points to spare, taking the game 38-20. Given the Golden Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while the Black Knights are ranked 593rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gibsonburg got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Elly Evarts out in front who posted ten points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Evarts is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 14 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Dawson, who earned eight points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Toledo Christian didn't have too much trouble with Lakota on Saturday as they won 43-29. The Eagles pushed the score to 40-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Raiders cut but never quite recovered from.

Gibsonburg pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.1 points over those games. As for Toledo Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12.

Gibsonburg was able to grind out a solid win over Toledo Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 49-41. Will Gibsonburg repeat their success, or does Toledo Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
