Softball Recap: Yorktown Wildcats vs. Nixon-Smiley Mustangs

Yorktown had to start their season on the road on Wednesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs by a score of 22-21. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Sydnie Krueger stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-6 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylie Krueger, who got on base in four of her seven plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Even though they lost, Yorktown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.

The victory got Nixon-Smiley back to even at 1-1.
