Softball Recap: Montgomery Catholic's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Montgomery Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Booker T. Washington Golden Eagles a 15-0 shutout. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 16-0 win on Tuesday.

Jennifer Looney made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee Wilcoxson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Peyton Dees was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Montgomery Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Montgomery Catholic's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Booker T. Washington, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montgomery Catholic will challenge Tallassee at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Booker T. Washington, they will face off against LAMP at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. LAMP has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.3 runs per game on average), something Booker T. Washington will no doubt try to take advantage of.
