Softball Recap: Sahuaro Takes a Loss

Sahuaro had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it 17. They lost 20-3 to the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Nighthawks from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Sahuaro saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nissie Arellano, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Ironwood Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Ironwood Ridge's side, they got a massive performance out of Evangeline Quezada, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five hits gave Quezada a new career-high. Derissa Price was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ironwood Ridge beat Sahuaro by a score of 8-3 on Thursday.
