Preview: Jay Mustangs vs. Taft Raiders
The Jay Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Taft Raiders at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Jay knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Taft likes a good challenge.
On Wednesday, Jay strolled past Harlan with points to spare, taking the game 64-48.
Jay got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Elijah Baldwin out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. Baldwin has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 17 times he's played. Jarrius Jackson jr was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Taft's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 15th straight loss. They were dealt a 73-44 defeat at the hands of Sotomayor.
Jay has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. As for Taft, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-23.
Jay came out on top in a nail-biter against Taft in their previous meeting back in January, sneaking past 93-90. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jay since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
