Basketball Recap: Hoover Huskies vs. Winfield Generals
Hoover was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 55-28 to the Winfield Generals, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Generals are ranked 34th).
Zoey Hall and Sadi Wehrle certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Hall posted six points and five boards, while Wehrle put up two points and four steals.
Winfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brooklyn Cole, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards. Cole is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashlee Johnson, who had nine points in addition to eight boards and four steals.
Hoover's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Winfield, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-5.
Hoover will square off against Clay County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Winfield, they will challenge Greenbrier East at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenbrier East will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Winfield surely won't give up without a fight.
