Softball Recap: Cedar Grove Panthers vs. West Essex Knights
Cedar Grove had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it six. They fell 8-4 to the West Essex Knights. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
As for West Essex, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For West Essex's part, Brooke Gillen (Brooke) made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Gillen (Brooke) has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI were her first of the season.

Looking ahead, Cedar Grove will head out on the road to square off against Caldwell at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
