Basketball Recap: Sumrall Gets the Win

Sumrall had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They escaped with a win on Thursday against the West Marion Trojans by the margin of a single free throw, 38-37. This was a revenge game for the Bobcats: when they faced off against the Trojans back in November, they had to take a 50-48 loss.

Sumrall was led to victory by Ella Robertson and Talasha Harvey. Robertson dropped a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds, while Harvey dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. Those 13 boards gave Robertson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Bass, who posted six points.

Sumrall was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Marion only posted five.

When it comes to explaining why West Marion lost, don't look at Precious Conerly. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Conerly has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Callason Barnes, who earned seven points.

Sumrall's record now sits at 4-9. As for West Marion, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Sumrall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-41 defeat against Oak Grove on the 12th. As for West Marion, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 44-42 loss against Columbia on the 12th.
