Baseball Recap: East Wilkes Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

East Wilkes won the last time they faced Avery County and things went their way on Thursday too. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Vikings. With that victory, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Dalton Wood was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aidan Childers, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run.

The win was the third in a row for East Wilkes, bringing their record up to 9-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Avery County, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, East Wilkes will head out to take on Alleghany at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Avery County, they will be playing at home against Rosman at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.29 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
