Basketball Game Preview: Legacy Academy Silverbacks vs. Menaul Panthers

The Legacy Academy Silverbacks will square off against the Menaul Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Legacy Academy will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak.

Legacy Academy had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 53-point drubbing they dealt Jemez Valley on Friday. Legacy Academy breezed past Jemez Valley to the tune of 72-19. The Silverbacks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 26 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Legacy Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryant Scales, who shot 50% from the field en route to 21 points and eight rebounds. Scales is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last five games he's played. Daniel Tavarez was another key player, going 8-for-10 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds.

Legacy Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Menaul didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Oak Grove Classical Academy on Friday, but they still walked away with a 52-46 victory.

Legacy Academy's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points over those games. As for Menaul, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-14.

Legacy Academy won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting last Thursday, slipping by Menaul 51-50. Will Legacy Academy repeat their success, or does Menaul have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
